American soprano Viviana Aurelia Goodwin is in her second year as a member of the Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera. Most recently, she appeared as Clara in Porgy and Bess in Francesca Zambello’s acclaimed production and made her role debut as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. In March 2026, she will portray the title role in Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, directed by Denyce Graves and conducted by Kedrick Armstrong.
Later in the 2025–2026 season, Goodwin returns to Houston as a soloist with ROCO for Seeing Is Believing, performing songs by Jefferson Todd Frazier in a program celebrating American voices and stories.
Goodwin also returns to the Glimmerglass Festival as a Resident Artist for the 2026 season, where she will cover the role of Laurey and perform Virginia in Francesca Zambello’s production of Oklahoma!, as well as Despina in a new adaptation of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. She previously appeared at the festival in The Rake’s Progress and covered two roles in the world premiere of The House on Mango Street. She also portrayed Frieda in Sunday in the Park with George, a production that received the inaugural Musical Theatre Award at the 2025 International Opera Awards.
In 2024, Goodwin appeared as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at the Merola Opera Program, where she also performed Suzel in Mascagni’s Cherry Duet from L’amico Fritz in the Merola Grand Finale Concert. She has also been an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, appearing in productions of Porgy and Bess, Carmen, and The Love for Three Oranges. Under the baton of Maestro David Neely, she has performed scenes from La bohème (Musetta), Les contes d’Hoffmann (Giulietta), Don Giovanni (Zerlina), and Le nozze di Figaro (Susanna).
Goodwin studied the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she worked with renowned soprano Nova Thomas. She previously attended Oklahoma City University, where she was a student of Emmy Award–winning tenor Jeffrey Picón. As a Cafritz Young Artist, she has also worked with Betsy Bishop, Heidi Grant Murphy, Mark Schnaible, and Neil Shicoff.
In competition, she was named a District Winner in the Tulsa District of the 2025 Eric and Dominic Laffont Competition and received Third Prize in the Ladies Music Club Competition in 2022.
Viviana is a proud native of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
